Cyril Linette Contemplating LFP Presidential Bid Amidst League 1 Challenges

According to RMC Sport, Cyril Linette is seriously considering running for the presidency of the LFP (Ligue de Football Professionnel) as Vincent Labrune prepares for potential competition. Linette has been consulting with presidents of Ligue 1 and Ligue 2 to gauge their thoughts on French football and promote his managerial background, which includes experience with L’Equipe and PMU. With elections set for September 10, he is currently evaluating his candidacy and has requested endorsements for independent administrator status from Foot Unis.

Previously, Linette increased his media presence during discussions about Ligue 1 TV rights, expressing criticisms of the LFP’s handling of the situation. He compared the situation to “jumping without a parachute” after leaving Canal+, resulting in a challenging predicament for French football. Despite this, he suggested that LFP leaders have done well given the circumstances of the negotiated contracts and defended Labrune’s salary, indicating it is in line with industry standards, albeit surprised by the lack of discussion about variable pay options.
