Tyrese Haliburton Aims for Olympic Gold with Team USA

Tyrese Haliburton, who previously won a WIAA state title and a gold medal at the FIBA Under-19 World Cup, is preparing for his first Olympics with Team USA. He aims to add an Olympic gold medal to his accolades, recognizing it as one of the pinnacle achievements in basketball along with an NBA championship.

Currently training in Las Vegas for the 2024 Games in Paris that start on July 26, Haliburton and his teammates face the challenge of maintaining Team USA’s dominance, notably after a disappointing fourth-place finish at the previous FIBA World Cup.

Haliburton acknowledges the pressure that comes with representing USA Basketball, stating, “Because we are the gold standard of basketball, you’re going to get every team’s best shot.” He is excited to play alongside legends like LeBron James and Steph Curry, who weren’t part of the World Cup squad.

Upcoming schedule:
– Team USA will have an exhibition against Canada on Wednesday.
– Olympic group play starts on July 28 against Serbia, featuring NBA MVP Nikola Jokic.

Haliburton views the pressure of competing for gold as motivating, reinforcing the tradition and expectations of USA basketball.
