EU Mobilizes Aid for Wildfires in Greece and Albania

The European Commission has activated emergency support for Greece and Albania due to severe wildfires, utilizing the EU Civil Protection Mechanism. Key details include:

– **Aerial Support for Greece:**
– 2 rescEU firefighting planes from Italy
– 1 rescEU helicopter from France
– 1 helicopter from Serbia

– **Ground Support for Greece:**
– Firefighting teams from Czechia, France, Italy, Serbia, and Romania
– Romanian, Maltese, and Moldovan firefighters already in Greece are among the first responders

– **Support for Albania:**
– 1 military multipurpose plane from Romania, capable of carrying 6 tons of water, will be deployed on 14 August

The Commission is monitoring the situation closely and is prepared to provide additional assistance as necessary. During this fire season, the EU has expanded its rescue capabilities, now featuring 28 planes and 4 helicopters stationed across 10 Member States, along with over 540 firefighters from 12 countries ready to assist when required.
